> Definition of Steel Grating
Steel Grating is a king of open steel member with its bearing bars & cross bars jointing at their intersections either by welding or by locking
> General Information of Steel Grating
Bearing Bar : A flat bar with standing the main load is in consistent with the span direction.
Cross Bar : The connecting bars, made from twisted bar, round bar or flat bar, which extend across the bearing bars and the bars used to secure the position of the bearing bars.
Bearing Bar Pitch : The distance center to center of the two adjacent bearing bars.
Cross Bar Pitch : The distance center to center of the two adjacent cross bars.
Length : The maximum dimension of a grating panel, measured parallel to the bearing bars & in the same direction as the bearing bars.
Width : Measured perpendiculsr to the bearing bars & in the same direction as the cross bars. The overall dimension height of a grating panel.
Height of Bearing Bar : The dimension thickness of a grating panel.
Thickness of Bearing Bar : The dimension thickness of a grating panel.
Banding Bar : A flat bar used for end plate of a grating panel and to enhance architectural appearance or to provide additional transverse stiffness
> Material Standards
Mild Steel - Makmur Jayamandiri Steel utilize a high quality mild steel for load bearing bars, which exceeds the strength of ASTM A36, JIS G3101, SS400. This is particularly beneficial where a floor is subjected to wheel loads, as deflection becomes a subornate consideration to the ability of the load bearing bar to with stand high stress.
> Manufacturing Standars
Makmur Jayamandiri Steel grating are designed and manufactured in accordance with relevant international standads, Makmur Jayamandiri Steel utilize manufacturing standard of the National Association of Achitectural Metal Manufacturers (NAAMM) and Singapore Standard SS-363-1993.
> Treatment Standards
Galvanized Hot-Dip galvanizing conforms to the following equivalent Standards: ASTM A123.
> Tolerance of Steel Grating
The allowed deviation of length and width is +/- 6mm
The non-perpendecularity of bearing bar is allowed no more than 10% of width of bearing bar.
Position deviation of cross bar: cross bar surface should not surpass bearing bar surface 1 mm, beginning & end of cross bar should not surpass the end surfaces of two sides of grating 2 mm.
The deviation of diagonal caused by grating tolerance should be equal or less than +/- 6mm.
> General Recomended of installation Steel Grating
Grating must be installed with cross rods on top side to achieve strength specifications provided.
Metal should be used for all grating supports.
Clearances shown are recommended but may vary in accordance with dimensional tolerances.
Heavy Duty Grating must be designed to have structural support under each bearing bar at cut outs.
> Example
GRT 25/5 - 30/100 GS
GRT 25/5 - 30/100 GP
> Designation
Each Grating type is coded for easy identification as shown in the following example :
GRT : Sign of MJS Grating
25/5 : Size of Bearing Bar (Height x Thickness)
30 : Bearing Bar Pitch
100 : Cross Bar Pitch
G/U : Sign of Treatment Material (Galvanized or Untreated)
P/S : Sign of the Shape of Bearing Bar (Plain or Serrated)
What is Steel Grating?
Grating is a net or grid-shaped structure made of connected rods with open gaps in each. Grate has many uses, including:
As floors, roads, platforms or coverings in various environments, such as industrial, commercial and infrastructure areas
As a pedestrian street floor
As a work platform
As ventilation under the building
As an air duct cover
As a filter or strainer
